There will be numerous TV specials to mark the occasion, two of which are listed below. Today also marks Juneteenth, a holiday that celebrates the end of legal slavery in the United States. (It also has Eva Longoria and Zoe Saldana behind it in producer roles.) Then there’s HBO Max’s Gordita Chronicles, set in 1980s Miami, about a family in pursuit of the American dream for their kids. Maya Rudolph stars in Apple TV+’s Loot, about a very rich lady living the life of her dreams until she discovers her husband’s been cheating on her. On a lighter front, two new comedy series also premiere this week, and each one is worth your time.
(Spoiler alert: It’s not.) Although it’s easy to draw parallels here between Anna Delvey ( Inventing Anna) and Elizabeth Holmes ( The Dropout), Chloe is its own story without the pomp and circumstance and high-profile media storm. In this series, though, she stars as a woman who infiltrates the life of an old childhood friend and becomes obsessed with living what she thinks is this girl’s perfect life. (If you’ll recall, Doherty played Princess Anne for the last two seasons of the Emmy-winning drama and was the show’s secret weapon.) Amazon Prime Video launches the six-episode series Chloe, a mesmerizing psychological thriller starring The Crown’s Erin Doherty.
